About Taryn

Taryn Lotz is the creator and founder of Start the Art of Change. She has combined her passion for arts-based learning with her skills and change managment expertise developed over the past eight years to create the unique offering of Start.

She holds a Masters (cum laude) in Industrial Psychology from Wits University and has been a practicing Industrial Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa for the past seven years.

Over the past few years, Taryn has been involved in the ASTAR (Awakening Spirit through Art) processes and studio work and is a certified ASTAR facilitator. ASTAR is a highly successful and expanding Network of teachers dedicated to process-driven art education.  ASTAR is based on the philosophy, approach and methodology developed by Lindy Solomon over the past twenty years. ASTAR is a non-judgemental approach to art making where the creative process is the focus rather than the art products. Participants are encouraged to work spontaneously, to trust the creative process, to express honestly and to honour all that is made with acceptance. Processes are designed to bypass the critical, controlling mind so that participants are able to let go of fear and surrender to the creative process. This process methodology informed the development of the START processes and has been adapted to the corporate environment. 

Taryn believes in a playful, fun, enlivening and experimental process that at the same time engages people in deep and meaningful discussion through metaphor, storytelling, and envisioning new possibilities for the future.

Taryn has also worked as strategy and change management consultant at Laetoli for over seven years and continues to consult and collaborate with Laetoli. She has assisted many Organisations with change interventions at a strategic and an operational level.

Over the years, she has aided a number of Organisations with the customised design of strategic change and HR processes including building Change Resilience, Embracing Diversity, Coaching and Mentoring, Organisational Restructuring and Cultural Integration. She has also had widespread experience in the design of real time large-scale Interventions which align hundred or even thousands of employees.
